A mosque in Prestwich was the focus of a significant emergency response after a mysterious substance was delivered by post.

Greater Manchester Police has launched an investigation to determine whether the incident was a hoax or a genuine chemical threat.

In their statement, the police confirmed that they had received reports of the substance and, as a precaution, evacuated the premises while collaborating with the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS).

No individuals have reported feeling unwell due to the substance, and authorities believe there is no broader risk to the community.

Firefighters were deployed to assist with the evacuation and establish a safety cordon around the area.

The incident was reported around 4:15 PM, with two fire engines quickly arriving at the scene.

Following their assessment, firefighters have since left the mosque, and investigations are underway to ascertain the substance’s nature and intent.
