In a strong condemnation, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has labeled Israel a “terrorist state” engaged in a genocidal war in Gaza.

The remarks come as Israel continues its military offensive in the region since October 7, resulting in a reported 21,000 deaths in the besieged enclave.

Taking to his social media platform, Diaz-Canel expressed deep concern over Israel’s military operation in Gaza, highlighting the devastating impact on the region and the loss of thousands of Palestinian civilian lives. He referred to the situation as “a humiliation for humanity” and criticized the lack of accountability from the Israeli regime.

“The genocide committed by the terrorist Israel in Gaza is an affront to all humanity,” wrote Diaz-Canel on his social media page, now named X. He questioned the ongoing impunity for murder and emphasized Cuba’s unwavering stance in defense of Palestine, stating, “Cuba, which will never be among the indifferent, continues to raise its voice in defense of Palestine.”

The conflict escalated after Hamas initiated Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, a surprise attack against the Israeli regime in response to decades-long violence against Palestinians. Diaz-Canel’s comments add to the international chorus of criticism against Israel’s actions in Gaza. The ongoing conflict has resulted in a staggering toll, with at least 20,915 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, reported killed in the regime’s aggression so far.
