5.8-magnitude earthquake rocks Pakistan, tremors felt in Delhi-NCR, other states

Earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

An earthquake struck several regions in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with tremors felt in major cities including Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar, as well as in Multan, Chiniot, Lakki Marwat, Swat, and Chitral.

Tremors from an earthquake were felt on Wednesday.

The German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) said an earthquake of magnitude 5.8 has struck Pakistan. The quake was at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles), GFZ said.

“An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter Scale hit Pakistan at 12:58 pm (IST) today,” the National Center for Seismology said.

No reports of material damage have surfaced yet. Further details are awaited.

This is the second occurrence of mild tremors in Delhi and its surrounding areas within two weeks. On August 29, a 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan, originating 255 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface.
