Marilyn Mosby, a former high-ranking prosecutor in Baltimore, became widely known after she charged six police officers in connection with the death of Freddie Gray in 2015.
However, Mosby’s reputation has taken a hit after she was recently found guilty of two counts of perjury for providing false information on loan applications for two Florida vacation homes.
The US Justice Department revealed that Mosby pleaded not guilty to the charges last year.
Prosecutors accused her of using a provision of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, designed to financially help those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, to withdraw money from her retirement accounts, CNN reported.
The former prosecutor faces a maximum five-year prison sentence for two counts of perjury and is also charged with false mortgage applications for vacation homes in another federal case, which will be tried separately with a trial date yet to be announced.
A federal grand jury in January 2022 indicted Mosby for allegedly lying on an application, claiming adverse financial consequences due to the pandemic, despite earning a gross salary of over $200,000 in 2020.
