In a horrific incident on Christmas Day, a man was arrested in France for allegedly murdering his wife and four children in a knife attack.
The gruesome discovery was made on Monday night in their residence in Meaux, northeast of Paris. Local prosecutor Jean-Baptiste Bladier revealed that the mother and two daughters were stabbed multiple times, while the two younger sons appeared to have been suffocated or drowned.
The 33-year-old father was apprehended at his nearby residence on Monday night, prompting a murder investigation. The children, aged between 9 months and 10 years, fell victim to the horrific crime.
Neighbours reported hearing screams during the early hours of Christmas Day, and concerns grew when attempts to contact the family went unanswered.
Adding to the tragedy, it was disclosed that the husband had a history of mental illness, having assaulted his wife with a knife in 2019. Despite the previous incident, charges were not pursued due to his mental health condition at the time.
Investigating the crime scene, authorities found medical documents and prescriptions for anti-depressants in the family’s flat.
