US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has hailed the decision by India and Pakistan to agree to an immediate ceasefire after recent cross-border attacks brought both nations to the brink of war.
On Saturday, shortly after former President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire on his Truth Social platform, Rubio posted on X:
“I am pleased to announce that the governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and are prepared to initiate talks on several key issues at a neutral location.”
Rubio praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their “wisdom, prudence, and leadership” in choosing the path of peace.

Earlier on Saturday, Rubio had spoken with the foreign ministers of both countries. Commending both nations, he reiterated that “Pakistan and India are ready to begin discussions on several key issues at a neutral venue.”
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed that the foreign ministers of the United States and Saudi Arabia played a role in brokering the ceasefire.
Meanwhile, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan commenced at 4:30 PM Pakistan time (5:00 PM India time).
According to Misri, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) contacted his Indian counterpart at 3:30 PM (India local time), and both sides agreed to halt all military actions—by land, air, and sea—starting at the designated time.
