In reply, Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored 76 runs, helping his side to get over the line. Iyer made 48 runs while Gill scored 31 runs.

In past encounters, New Zealand defeated India in the 2000 Champions Trophy final. In 2002, India and Sri Lanka shared the title, while India won in 2013 by beating England. However, in 2017, India suffered a heavy 180-run defeat against Pakistan.
