Indian forces once again came under attack in Occupied Kashmir in an incident in the Surankote area of Poonch district, where two vehicles, including one belonging to the Indian Air Force (IAF), were targeted by unknown people, resulting in the death of one IAF soldier and injuries to five others.
One of the injured airmen is reported to be in critical condition. The injured personnel were immediately airlifted to the Command Hospital in Udhampur for further medical treatment, as confirmed by officials.
Upon receiving information about the attack, additional forces were swiftly deployed to the area, and counter-terror operations are currently in progress.
Security forces sources stated that the local Rashtriya Rifles unit initiated cordon and search operations in the vicinity.
The Indian Air Force released a statement confirming that their convoy, which was attacked near Shahsitar in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, has been secured.
The statement further mentioned that ongoing cordon and search operations are being conducted by local military units in the area.
The incident occurred around 6:15 pm when the personnel were traveling from Jaranwali to the air force station.
This incident marks the first major attack on the armed forces in the region this year, following a series of terror attacks on the army in the previous year.
Visuals captured after the attack revealed multiple bullet holes on the vehicle’s windscreen that came under fire.
