Iran said on Saturday its air defense system successfully countered Israel’s attacks but that “limited damage” was caused to some locations.
The Iranian army says two of its soldiers have been killed in Israeli air strikes overnight, Iranian state media reports.
Iran’s state media agency IRNA cites a statement from the army, saying: “The army of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in defending Iran’s security and protecting the people and Iran’s interests, sacrificed two of its fighters while countering projectiles from the criminal Zionist regime.”
In a statement, the Iranian air defense said Israel attacked military targets in the provinces of Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam.
A spokesperson for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization said flights on all routes have been canceled until further notice, the country’s state news agency IRNA reported on Saturday.
Iran is prepared to respond to any Israeli “aggression”, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency said on Saturday, citing sources.
“There is no doubt that Israel will face a proportional reaction for any action it takes,” Tasnim quoted the sources as saying.
Iraq has reopened its airspace, the national transport ministry said, following an earlier closure prompted by security concerns.
The airspace was closed for about four hours after a similar decision by neighboring Iran’s civil aviation authority.
