British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has warned that Russia poses a “serious threat” to the UK’s airspace and territorial waters.
While addressing the House of Commons, the prime minister said that Russia has carried out cyberattacks on the National Health Service (NHS) and even attempted to assassinate people on British streets.
He emphasized that Ukraine’s future is crucial for the UK’s national security. “We stand with Ukraine because it is the right decision, and it is in our country’s best interest,” he stated.
Starmer further said that the UK seeks lasting and strong peace based on justice. “Britain will lead from the front in securing a peace agreement,” he added.
Keir Starmer has told MPs that US President Donald Trump’s commitment to achieving peace in Ukraine is “sincere”.
The prime minister said Europe would have to do “the heavy lifting” as part of a peace deal but reiterated that a peacekeeping force would need “strong US backing”.
He also accused Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky of not wanting peace adding: “America will not put up with it for much longer.”
Addressing MPs, Keir said Britain would “play a leading role” in any agreed deal including, if necessary, deploying British troops in Ukraine to deter Russia from further attacks.
