Los Angeles Galaxy dominated Sunday’s Major League Soccer (MLS) match against David Beckham’s Inter Miami but Lionel Messi bringing the game to a tie with his first goal of 2024 proved why he is an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.
The Argentinean superstar equalised the match for his team in stoppage time, with a brilliant assist from his ex-Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba, showcasing their brilliant chemistry to save Inter Miami a point after a 90-minute game where they were outclassed in every sense, Goal reported.
The Galaxy almost scored early in the match after a foul by Sergio Busquets on Joseph Paintsil, but the United States men’s national soccer team (USMNT) goalkeeper Drake Callender denied Riqui Puig from the spot.
Dejan Jovelic scored for the Galaxy in the 75th minute but the match took a legendary twist as it came down to the final minutes.
Despite dominating the entire match, from defence to midfield and into the final third, the Galaxy was caught off guard by Inter Miami’s moment of brilliance.
The Herons now await a big rivalry match in week two of the MLS season, where they will take on South Florida’s other MLS team, Orlando City.
Meanwhile, the Lions will look to earn their first three points of the season while Inter Miami will be searching for their second home win of the season.
