Pakistan’s Former intelligence chief retired Lt Gen Faiz Hameed has been “formally arraigned on charges of engaging in political activities”, the military’s media affairs wing said on Tuesday.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced today that a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) has formally charged retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed. The proceedings, initiated on August 12, under relevant sections of the Pakistan Army Act, are ongoing.
The ISPR statement detailed the charges against Lt. Gen. (r) Hameed as involving engagement in political activities, compromising national security and interests through violations of the Official Secrets Act, misuse of authority and government resources, and undue harm to individuals.
“On 12 August 2024, the process of FGCM was initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hamid (Retd) under provisions of the Pakistan Army Act and in first place Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) has been formally arraigned on charges of engaging in political activities, violations of Official Secret Act detrimental to safety and interest of the state, misuse of authority & government resources and causing wrongful loss to a person(s),” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release.
“During the process, involvement of Lt Gen Faiz Hamid (Retd), in events related to creating agitation and unrest, leading up to multiple incidents including but not limited to 9th May 2023 incident for fomenting instability; at the behest of and in collusion with vested political interests, is also being separately investigated.
A separate investigation is also underway into Lt. Gen. (r) Hameed’s alleged involvement in violent incidents that caused unrest and insecurity in the country.
This investigation includes events connected to the May 9 incidents and will examine the alleged conspiracy and involvement of nefarious political elements in these violent acts.
