Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez has officially completed a transfer from Brazilian club Grêmio to Inter Miami, as confirmed by the MLS club on Friday.
Suárez, aged 36, had a prolific stint at Grêmio, playing 53 matches and netting 26 goals in various competitions last season. His exceptional performance earned him the Golden Ball, recognising him as the best player in the Brazilian Serie A.
Inter Miami’s managing owner, Jorge Mas, expressed enthusiasm about the signing, stating, “We promised our fans we would pursue the world’s best players to build a squad that can compete at the highest echelons in the Americas.”
Mas sees Suárez, coming off an award-winning season, as a key addition to the team, emphasising the club’s ambition to dream big.
Suárez’s move to Miami involves cutting short a two-year deal with Grêmio and marks a reunion with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets.
The quartet, having shared success at Camp Nou between 2014 and 2020, brings a wealth of experience, including four LaLiga titles and one Champions League.
Expressing his excitement, Suárez said, “I’m very happy and excited to take on this new challenge with Inter Miami. I can’t wait to get started, and I’m ready to work to make the dream of winning more titles with this great Club a reality.”
Suárez is optimistic about the shared ambition of achieving success and looks forward to reuniting with friends and players while contributing to the joy of Inter Miami’s passionate fans.
