Pakistan officials said Monday that security forces killed at least four insurgents trying to infiltrate a naval air base in southwestern Baluchistan province.
Security forces successfully thwarted an attack attempted by terrorists on PNS Siddique — a naval base in Balochistan’s Turbat city, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Tuesday.
The attack, which took place on the night of March 25 and 26, was foiled following the swift and effective response by the troops ensuring the safety and security of personnel and assets, the military’s media wing added.
Synergetic and effective response by the armed forces enabled the killing of all four terrorists in the ensuing joint clearance operation, the statement read.
“Security forces in the vicinity were immediately mobilised to support the naval troops,” it added.
In the wake of the attack, a 24-year-old Frontier Corps trooper, Sepoy Noman Fareed killed after gallantly fighting the terrorists. The died soldier was a resident of Muzaffargarh and was serving in Frontier Corps Balochistan.
The Baluch Liberation Army (BLA), an outlawed insurgent group, took responsibility for staging the assault. In a statement sent to reporters, the group said members of its so-called suicide unit, known as the Majeed Brigade, had carried out the raid and inflicted heavy casualties on Pakistani forces.
Designated as a global terrorist organization by Pakistan, the United Kingdom and the United States, BLA often releases inflated details about its violent campaigns.
Last week, eight heavily armed BLA militants stormed a government compound in nearby Gwadar district, home to a China-operated port. The ensuing gunfight killed all the assailants and left several Pakistani security personnel dead.
