New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by five wickets, booking their place in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy.

This result also ended Pakistan’s chances of progressing, as the Green Shirts suffered two defeats with only one match remaining against Bangladesh on Feb 27.

India and New Zealand have now advanced to the tournament’s final four.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first against struggling Bangladesh who lost to India by six wickets on Thursday.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 77 runs while Jaker Ali made 45 runs.

New Zealand bowler Michael Bracewell picked up four wickets, restricting Bangladesh innings to 236/9

In reply, New Zealand chased down the target in the 47th over with 5 wickets to spare.

Ravindra scored a brilliant century (112) while Latham scored half century.

Earlier, Mitchell Santner confirmed two changes for his side: Kyle Jamieson in for Nathan Smith, and Ravindra into the middle order for an unwell Daryl Mitchell.

“Looks like a very good wicket, can get better to bat on,” Santner said. “We’ve been doing a lot of good stuff. Rawalpindi is a different challenge.”

Najmul Hossain Shanto wasn’t too perturbed to be batting. Bangladesh have switched in both Mahmudullah and the speedster, Nahid Rana. “He is very exciting, the way he has bowled the last few years, the pace and bounce,” Shanto said.

Soumy Sarkar and Tanzim Hasan sit this one out. On the fightback against India, Shanto added: “It gives us a lot of confidence, the way we batted in the middle overs against a quality team.”
