Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar on Thursday, while urging the developed countries to take responsibility for climate change, said that Pakistan should not be held accountable for climate change and its devastating consequences.

In an interview with an American TV channel, he said that Pakistan’s regions like Sindh and Balochistan have suffered from severe floods due to shifting climate patterns.

Kakar emphasized that the ‘Loss and Damage Fund’ must be initiated and that it must be kept apart from loans from banking institutions. To adequately address losses and damages brought on by climate change, he emphasized that these funds should be supplementary and merit-based.

The prime minister emphasized the value of encouraging an open dialogue on climate change as an alternative to forcing policies on countries and businesses. In addition to stressing the importance of a global structure under the United Nations that is backed by significant financial institutions to handle the Loss and Damage Fund comprehensively, he asked wealthy nations to show responsibility in tackling climate-related challenges.

Kakar also presented a strategy that aims to convert coal-fired projects into ventures that use renewable energy. In order to address climate change, he emphasized the need for investments in targeted initiatives and said that Gulf countries like the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Western nations might make major contributions to these efforts.

According to Kakar, this is a fantastic chance for Pakistan and the investing nations to collaborate on finding sustainable energy solutions.
