Pakistan has taken centre stage in international diplomacy by successfully sponsoring UNSC Resolution 2788 (2025) during its July presidency. The resolution, unanimously adopted, calls for stronger global mechanisms for peaceful dispute resolution—implicitly targeting long-standing tensions in Kashmir and Palestine. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized renewed multilateral engagement, backed by praise from UN Secretary‑General António Guterres for initiating a pivotal debate on diplomacy’s role in conflict prevention.

At the same time, Islamabad is reshaping its strategic economic alliances. The resurgent Reko Diq copper‑gold mining project in Balochistan is projected to generate $70 billion in free cash flow over the next decades and is advancing toward securing $2 billion in international financing, including a $300 million IFC loan and backing from Saudi Arabia and U.S. Export-Import Bank—potentially offering leverage in U.S.–Pakistan tariff negotiations.

In a sign of deepening ties with Washington, Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir reportedly discussed access to critical mineral assets across Balochistan during closed-door meetings with U.S. officials, including an audience with former President Donald Trump. The discussion signals an economic pivot toward U.S. engagement amid rising Chinese investments under CPEC, valued at around $60 billion.

While reaching out internationally, Pakistan has also reaffirmed its longstanding strategic alliance with China, supporting ongoing development of CPEC 2.0, expanding cooperation in clean energy, IT, and infrastructure, and presenting itself as a global partner in mineral development forums—all while balancing multilateral engagements.
