During his visit to Pakistan, Saeed Sheikh, President of the Houston-Karachi Sister City Association, visited the Karachi Press Club, where he was warmly received by the club’s President Fazil Jamili, Secretary General Sohail Afzal Khan, and Governing Body Member Qazi Muhammad Yasir.
In his address, Saeed Sheikh highlighted that the Sister City relationship between Houston and Karachi was established in 2009. He proudly noted that Karachi remains the only South Asian city to have received the honor of being a Sister City to Houston.
Sheikh emphasized that overseas Pakistanis, particularly the community residing in Houston, are playing an active role in contributing to Pakistan’s economic betterment.
He further shared that the Houston-Karachi Sister City Association has undertaken several projects, including establishing RO plants and providing medicines in underprivileged areas and hospitals in Karachi.
Moreover, he mentioned that the association also offers scholarships to Pakistani students studying in Houston. Recently, a permanent scholarship program has been launched at the University of Houston specifically for students from Karachi.
On this occasion, the Karachi Press Club presented Saeed Sheikh with a traditional Ajrak as a token of appreciation, while Sheikh gifted a commemorative shield on behalf of the Houston city administration to the Press Club. Later, Sheikh toured various sections of the Karachi Press Club, where he mingled with its members.
