In a tragic turn of events, international Ghanaian football player Raphael Dwamena, 28, suddenly crashed and died during a match in Albania, the Ghana Football Association said Saturday.
Although official details regarding Dwamena’s death have not been disclosed, video footage suggests that he collapsed during the 24th minute of an Albanian top division match between Dwamena’s team, KF Egnatia, and Partizani on Saturday.
A video shared on X, formerly Twitter, captures the distressing moment Dwamena falls on the pitch, prompting players from both teams to rush to his aid. Medical personnel attended to him, and an ambulance was brought onto the field.

It’s worth noting that Dwamena had previously experienced a collapse in October 2021 during a match between his then-team, Blau-Weiß Linz, and Hartberg in the Austrian Cup. However, he successfully recovered and returned to active play.
Throughout his career, Dwamena showcased his talent with stints at clubs in Spain, Switzerland, Austria, and Denmark. Levante, one of Dwamena’s former teams, honoured the forward in a tribute following the unfortunate incident.
