Following India’s missile strikes on multiple locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has called on both India and Pakistan to keep communication channels open and work towards de-escalation.
In separate conversations with the National Security Advisers of both countries, Rubio stressed the importance of dialogue to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation. He expressed hope that the conflict between the two nations would soon come to an end.
“We are closely monitoring the India-Pakistan tensions,” Rubio wrote on social media. “We are in continuous contact with the leadership of both countries to work towards a peaceful resolution.”
Rubio also echoed the words of former US President Donald Trump, expressing optimism that the ongoing military standoff will de-escalate quickly.
His remarks come after India claimed to have carried out precision strikes on nine targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir under Operation Sandur. In response, Pakistan’s armed forces claimed they shot down five Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale aircraft, during retaliatory action.
Rubio reaffirmed that the US will stay engaged with both sides to help ensure a peaceful solution and continue monitoring the situation closely.
