Several policemen, locals injured in clash during anti-encroachment drive in Islamabad

Police fire tear gas at protesters during the operation against land mafia

At least 11 Islamabad police personnel were injured when residents of the Chauntra area in Islamabad clashed with the police during an operation against the land mafia. Locals said three protestors were also injured.

The Capital Development Authority of Islamabad had launched an operation against encroachment in the Sinyari village in Islamabad. However, unidentified men allegedly fired upon the officials and pelted them with stones. As a result, 11 police officials were injured including SP Tahir Niazi and two DSPs.

A huge contingent of police was deployed in the area to maintain a law-and-order situation while the police also fired tear gases at the demonstrators.A statement from the police said that the law would take its course against the culprits.
