Sri Lanka outnumbered England in the must-win contest of the World Cup on Thursday, as the Lions won the match against the defending champions by eight wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
The Kusal Mendis-led side chased the low-scoring target in 26 overs with eight wickets in hand. Pathum Nissanka, 77, and Sadeera Samarawickrama, 65, remained not out and led their team to victory.
It was a complete bowling effort from the Sri Lankan side as they pushed England closer to the World Cup exit door when they bowled out the defending champions for just 156.
Ben Stokes top-scored for England with 43 but even he was powerless to perform one of his trademark rescue missions as Sri Lanka ripped through their rivals in just 33.2 overs.
