In a first, Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa has appointed Jazeela Aslam as the registrar of the Supreme Court.
“For the first time in the country’s history a lady has been appointed as registrar of the Supreme Court, which is a commendable achievement for a working mother of three and serves as a beacon to dedicated lady judicial officers,” said a press release from the top court.
The appointment was made by the newly sworn-in Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa.
Jazeela got a first division in her BA from Kinnaird College and did her LLB from Punjab University and secured a second position in the judicial competitive examination of Punjab.
She joined the Punjab Judicial Service as a civil judge/judicial magistrate in May 1994. She has also worked as a deputy solicitor as an instructor at the Federal Investigation Judicial Academy and as director of academics at the Punjab Judicial Academy.
Before her appointment as the SC registrar, she was serving as the district and sessions judge Okara. She has also served in the same position in Kasur and Sialkot.
Meanwhile, Dr Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmed was appointed as the secretary to the CJP.
Prior to his appointment, Ahmed held the position of professor and chairman of the Department of Shariah and Law at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University. The varsity has agreed to permit Dr. Ahmed to serve at the SC for the duration of the incumbent CJP’s tenure.
