Afghanistan’s Supreme Court said Taliban authorities executed three convicted murderers on Friday, bringing to nine the number of men publicly put to death since their return to power.
Two men were executed in front of spectators in Qala I Naw, the center of Badghis province, while a third was killed in Zaranj in Nimroz province, the Supreme Court said in a statement.
A third man was executed in Zaranj, the capital of Nimroz province, according to a statement from the Supreme Court posted on the social media platform X.
The men had been “sentenced to retaliatory punishment” for shooting others, after their cases were “examined very precisely and repeatedly,” the court said.
“The families of the victims were offered amnesty and peace, but they refused,” the statement added.
Notices widely shared on Thursday invited Afghans to “attend the event.”
