The Consulate of Italy in Karachi hosted the ninth edition of Italian Design Day (IDD) 2025, a global initiative organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome.
This year’s theme, “Inequalities. Design for a Better Life,” aligns with the upcoming International Exhibition of the Triennale di Milano.
Consul of Italy, Mr. Fabrizio Bielli, welcomed attendees and emphasized the vital role of quality design in mitigating inequalities and enhancing the well-being of individuals in daily life.
He also highlighted the “Diplomacy for Growth” strategy launched by Minister Antonio Tajani, which seeks to strengthen design as a key element of Made in Italy.
A key feature of the event was the exclusive Curtain Raiser for the Pakistan Pavilion at the 2025 Venice Biennale for Architecture. Architects from Coalesce Design Studio and MAS Architects presented the pavilion’s theme, (Fr)agile Systems, which aligns with this year’s IDD theme.
The pavilion’s focus is on the inequities in architecture and design, urging a reevaluation of climate resilience and its connection to cultural heritage and ecological realities.
In collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency and the Italian Development Committee, several Italian companies showcased their contributions to architecture and design in Pakistan.
Participating companies included Axis Design Studios, Best Board Industries, Novacolor by Innovators, S. Abdullah, and Natuzzi Italia, represented by Salmis Luxury Interiors. These companies displayed their products and ideas to address architectural challenges in Pakistan.
Additionally, the event featured a historical photographic exhibition, “Photography for Lifetime Achievement,” celebrating the masters of the Compasso d’Oro Lifetime Achievement Award. The exhibition, interpreted by Italian photographers, showcased photography as both a documentary tool and a creative medium that has played a significant role in promoting Italian design.
