US President Donald Trump has just said he may go to Istanbul on Friday if the Ukraine peace talks make progress today.
Speaking from Qatar, during his four-day visit to the Middle East, Trump says he hopes Russia and Ukraine can “do something” as the war “has to stop”.
“We’d like to see [the war] end, and I think we have a chance of doing it,” Trump adds.
The US president also took credit for the Ukraine-Russia summit.
“You have the potential for a good meeting. That meeting wasn’t going to take place. I insisted that the meeting take place, and it is taking place,” he added.
Trump added that he expects both Zelenskyy and Putin will be there. Putin has not confirmed his attendance yet.
