President Donald thanked his wife Melania for sticking by his side while facing the challenges of extreme cold and windy weather while blending his tribute with humor.
Addressing the crowd at Emancipation Hall, he said he was grateful to his wife Melania for putting up with the day.
After his swearing-in ceremony, he joked about her discomfort from wearing high heels all day.
“I have an incredible first lady. I shouldn’t say this. I’m going to get hell when I say this, but her feet are aching. You know, those heels,” he said, referring to the four-inch heels she wore for the occasion.
Trump also told a funny moment earlier in the day when Melania asked how far they would have to walk. “Darling, I love you, but my feet are killing me,” she said. Trump replied, “Oh, not far—just four or five hundred yards.”
“She said that’s five football fields,” he added.
He asked her if she could make it and she said, “No matter what, we’re going to make it.”
He also made fun of the windy conditions as they approached the helicopter. “The wind is blowing like crazy, and with the hat that she’s wearing, she almost blew away,” Trump said, laughing.
“She was being elevated off the ground.”
Trump’s light-hearted remarks brought smiles to the people.
