Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on US President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine and see the destruction caused by Russia’s invasion, urging him to understand the true scale of the devastation before making any decisions or engaging in potential negotiations.
Zelensky appealed directly to Trump, saying, “Please, come to Ukraine — visit the people, the civilians, the fighters, the hospitals, the churches, and see the destroyed or dead children before making any kind of decision.”
Zelensky said he believes a visit would help Trump fully grasp the reality of what Russian President Vladimir Putin has done to Ukraine. “If he comes here, he’ll understand everything,” Zelensky stated.
The interview follows reports of a heated exchange between Zelensky, Trump, and U.S. Vice President JD Vance during the Ukrainian president’s visit to the White House in late February.
Ukraine had earlier agreed to a US-proposed unconditional ceasefire, but Moscow rejected the offer. Zelensky reiterated his mistrust of Putin, saying, “I’ve told President Trump many times — Putin cannot be trusted. That’s the real reason a ceasefire isn’t working.”
He further emphasized that Putin never wanted peace or Ukrainian independence. “Russia wants to destroy us completely,” Zelensky warned, as the war continues with no clear end in sight.
