William Thomas Hallenback Jr., also known as Thomas, has been protesting at the White House since 1981, when he started the White House Peace Vigil. The vigil is the longest-running peace vigil in US history, with someone present 24/7, regardless of the weather. Thomas was born in Tarrytown, New York, and has worked as a truck driver, carpenter, and jewelry maker.
