The ban on single-use plastic bags and products came into effect on Monday in Dubai, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Gulf News reported.

The resolution, issued on December 31, 2023, is aimed at encouraging people to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle and promoting the culture of using reusable products to advance sustainable development.

Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum issued the resolution.

The ban is applied to plastic bags from January 1 while the ban on the use of non-plastic single-use products including single-use bags will come into effect from June 1.
