Iranian state TV has carried a statement from the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) confirming “dozens” of missiles have been launched towards Israel, and threatening another attack if Israel responds.

The powerful Revolutionary Guards describes the missile strike as retaliation for the assassination in July of the Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh, as well as the Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah, on Friday – and for the killing of Lebanese and Palestinian people.

It said its air force had targeted “important bases” and would announce the details later.

Two interceptions have been heard by colleagues in our Middle East bureau in Jerusalem.

It comes a short while after the Israeli military said Iran had launched missiles towards Israel.

Reiterating part of the latest IDF statement, Israel’s emergency services say there are currently there are no reports of serious injuries following Iran’s missile attack on Israel.

A spokesperson for Magen David Adom (MDA) says emergency medical technicians and paramedics have been deployed to search “several sites where reports of rocket strikes have been received”.

“Currently, there are no reports of injuries from the fire towards Israel, except for two light injuries from shrapnel in the Tel Aviv area and some minor injuries nationwide while moving to safe spaces, as well as cases of anxiety.”

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Daniel Hagari, speaking minutes after the military said Israelis were now permitted to leave protected areas.

“We are on high alert both defensively and offensively.

We will defend the citizens of the State of Israel. This attack will have consequences. We have plans, and we will operate at the place and time we decide,” he says.

“We are not aware of any casualties; this is thanks to your responsible conduct,” he adds.
