In a determined concession speech delivered at Howard University, Vice President Kamala Harris pledged a peaceful transition of power to Donald Trump, urging her supporters to “keep fighting” for their beliefs.
“We must accept the election results. I spoke with President-elect Trump earlier today and congratulated him on his win,” Harris stated.
She emphasized respecting election outcomes as a hallmark of democracy, contrasting it with monarchy or tyranny.
Harris affirmed, “We owe our loyalty not to a president or a party, but to the Constitution and our conscience.”
Addressing her supporters, she acknowledged their disappointment after Trump’s victory and encouraged them to continue advocating for their ideals.
“The result of this election isn’t what we hoped for, but as long as we persevere, the promise of America will shine brightly,” she said. She also acknowledged the anxiety many feel about the future but expressed hope that it wouldn’t lead to darkness.
“Let us instead illuminate the sky with optimism, faith, truth, and service,” she concluded.
“Sometimes the fight takes a while,” she said. “That doesn’t mean we won’t win.”
